    Psychiatrist

    Dr. Jill Abram is a distinguished board-certified psychiatrist based in Indiana. She brings 38 years of rich experience to her practice. Throughout her career, she has been committed to being a beacon of healing and restoration for communities, families, and individuals. She combines direct care with collaborations with other health professionals to uphold the highest standards of psychiatric medicine. Her extensive professional journey and academic background in psychiatry have endowed her with profound expertise, particularly in child and adolescent psychiatry.

     

    Dr. Abram's Career

     

    Her career has left a lasting impact on numerous lives. Initially, she worked with the Homeless Mobile Team at Midtown Mental Center in Indianapolis from 1988 to 1990. Following this, she dedicated six years to the Child Team for Mental Health in Anderson, Indiana (1990-1996).

     

    In 1996, she entered private practice in Fishers, Indiana, and concurrently held a position at Pleasant Run Children's Home, a historic orphanage in Indianapolis. Her tenure in Anderson continued for almost seven more years in private practice, during which she also served as the adolescent psychiatrist at both Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility. Additionally, she provided her expertise as the psychiatric consulting physician at Fortville Christian Youth Home.

     

    Her career further expanded to include private practice in Indianapolis, roles at the Counseling Center Christian Theological Seminary, and the Family Counseling Center. She was also a consulting adolescent psychiatrist at Richmond State Hospital and collaborated with the Medical Staff Community Hospitals of Indianapolis.

     

    She also contributed as a consultant at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska and was a part of the medical team at North Star Hospital in Anchorage. Moreover, she assisted the Four County Counseling Center in Peru, Kokomo, and Logansport, Indiana, by helping to pioneer psychiatric telemedicine services.

     

    Her elective roles are noteworthy, including her consultancy with the Department of Mental Health to develop a coordinated care system with the Department of Education and the Department of Families and Children; consulting at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center; participating in the Conscience Development Research and Study Group; and engaging in a Trauma and Dissociation study group.

     

    Academic Experience and Accolades

     

    Jill Abram achieved her B.A. Summa Cum Laude from Hanover College, the oldest private college in Indiana, majoring in Chemistry with minors in Biology and Psychology. She was recognized with the "Long Citation for Outstanding Senior Woman" for her exceptional scholarship and community service.

     

    Her medical training was conducted at the Indiana University School of Medicine, which included a significant research component. She was selected to represent the university at the National Juvenile Diabetes Association and received the Academic Medicine Achievement Award for her outstanding academic contributions.

     

    Her residency and fellowship included a stint in Family Practice at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana, from June 1986 to 1987, and later at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry (PGY-2, PGY-3, PGY-4) from June 1987 to June 1990. She earned the Golden Apple Award in 1990, chosen by medical students for her substantial contributions to medical education. She completed her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, from June 1995 to June 1996.

    Her academic contributions include papers published in the Journal of Endocrinology and the Journal of Diabetes.

     

    Licensures and Board Certifications

     

    Prior to her retirement, she was licensed in both Indiana and Alaska. She holds certification with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has been a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since June 1991.
